Not Guilty Despite Full Confession
Steven Knecht successfully obtained a not guilty verdict in a jury trial of dealing in morphine and methamphetamine charges.
In this case involving a traffic stop, the client was the driver and his girlfriend was the front seat passenger. A search of the car resulted in the police finding the drugs in a purple makeup bag in the backseat and over a $1,000 in the girlfriend’s purse. The client took responsibility for the drugs at the traffic stop scene in return for the police not arresting the girlfriend. At trial, Knecht successfully argued that his client’s confession was false as it was made only to protect the girlfriend.
