New Habitual Vehicle Substance Offender Penalties in Indiana

Starting July 1, 2014, Indiana has a new habitual vehicle substance offender sentencing enhancement. A person who qualifies can have an additional 1 to 8 years added to his sentence.

To qualify for this additional sentence, a person must have accumulated 4 unrelated operating while intoxicated (OWI) or other vehicular substance offense convictions during their life, or three unrelated convictions for such offenses within a ten year period.

The penalties for crimes are dramatically changing. You should consult with experienced criminal defense lawyers such as Vonderheide & Knecht to understand and mitigate the possible penalties for a criminal offense.
